Healthy Alternatives For Fast Food

When you make meals and snacks at home you can control what ingredients are added and what isn't. Some quick meal ideas when you are craving fast food can be simple healthy versions of foods your family loves. The key is to not give up what you and your family likes but find ways to make these things healthier. Here are some healthy alternatives to fast food.

Try sweet potato fries or baked fries tossed with olive oil and seasoning salt. These can be healthier than fast food French fries.

A hamburger prepared with lean meat or ground turkey and cooked on a grill,or George Foreman appliance, at home can cut down greatly on the fat intake.

Homemade pizza crust can be made from scratch with whole wheat flour or ½ wheat flour and ½ white flour. Top your pizza with healthy cheese and if you like meat toppings don't go without just add more vegetables to go with it.

To replace a chocolate treat try hot chocolate or chocolate milk. Try breakfast burritos with scrambled eggs and topped with hot sauce or tomatoes.

Smoothies can can give you a burst of fruit and milk intake and is a great way to start off your day.

Stir fry's are a great way to include vegetables in your diet for the day. Serve with rice or cooked spaghetti noodles for a Lo Mein dish.

Planning ahead and having a well stocked kitchen will also help you cut back on fast food. If you are really craving something an occasional outing to a fast food restaurant won't hurt too much. Just remember eating healthy and making small changes each day will help make improvements that can last you a lifetime.
