Head Chef Notes

With Valentine's day just around the corner we've included some simple candy recipes and ideas for your Valentine. I was going to wait until later this week when we made a batch so I could include a picture with this issue but I wanted to send these to you faster.

If you haven't yet you can find more ideas on our Valentine recipes page. Have a sweet and Happy Valentine's Day.

Have you seen on many of our pages that you can create your own recipe webpage? This is something new and I'm so excited for you to join the Kids-Cooking-Activities.com community and add your own favorite recipes.

These forms are on many pages such as our Valentine Recipes page, Seasonal cooking pages, Easy Kids Meals pages, etc. We also have a way you can create your own theme dinner party page. All you have to do is fill out the form on the page you are interested in and your recipe will be created in its own webpage. Your page will have your submission and name and you can easily pass it on and share with your friends or family.

To get things started I'm giving a $20 gift certificate from www.growingcooks.com on March 15 to one of our random entries.

Kids Cookbook Review

This month I was able to do a kids cookbook review. It is called Cookbook 4 Kids from www.princesscrafts.com. My kids and I tried a few recipes and really enjoyed them. It has some fun and easy recipes for preschool-grade school age kids. This morning we made pancakes with a berry sauce that was in the cookbook. The kids enjoyed it. I loved it for the fact that it replaced our usual high sugar syrup! I found it a bright colorful e cookbook that my kids and I have and will enjoy.

I'm going to try and review a new cookbook each month so let me know(just reply to this email) if you have a cookbook you'd like me to review or one you suggest.

Simple Candy Recipes

One of the quickest and kid friendly ways to make chocolates is to use Wilton Candy melts and candy wafers. These aren't available throughout the world though so don't fret, we will discuss some more ideas such as making truffles and an easy candy recipe kids can make.

Using Candy Melts
Candy melts come in different flavors and colors. When used with candy molds you can create chocolates any size, shape and color you would like. Not sure what these are? Visit these links for ideas.
Candy Melts
Candy Molds
Melt the candy melts in a microwave safe dish for 30 second intervals. Stir and continue to melt. When done with a spoon drip chocolate into candy molds. Tap candy molds on counter to get rid of air bubbles. Place in freezer 10 minutes or until candy is solid and pops out of mold easily. You can also place an almond or peanut in each center before tapping on counter.

Chocolate Stacks
You can also melt one cup of chocolate wafers and stir in ¼ cup of one of the following:
Coconut
Peanuts
Rice Krispies
Crushed cookies
Blend together and drop by spoonfuls onto waxed paper. Allow to sit for several hours.

Quick Truffles
5 tablespoons butter
3 oz. semi sweet chocolate
2/3 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
finely chopped nuts
In a microwave safe bowl melt butter and chocolate together. Blend together. Stir in sugar and vanilla. Chill in the refrigerator until cool enough to touch. Butter your fingers and shape mixture into small balls. Place chopped nuts in a shallow bowl or plate. Roll balls into chopped nuts. Chill again and keep in the fridge.

Easy Fudge Candy
1 bag semi sweet chocolate chips
1 Cup peanut butter
3 cups mini marshmallows
Line a 8 inch pan with aluminum foil. Set aside. In microwave safe dish melt chocolate chips and peanut butter together. Stir in marshmallows until ingredients are well combined. Pour into foil lined pan. Chill in fridge.
