Lesson 8

Today's Kids Cooking Lessons involve one of the most important things to learn in life. The earlier you teach children about nutrition and healthy eating, the easier it is to form good habits. This lesson plan will go over the MyPyramid and take a field trip to a grocery store where you will talk about healthy food.

Part 1: Nutrition and Kids Eating Healthy

Please visit www.mypyramid.gov. Hang a MyPyramid kid's poster on your fridge and print off a coloring page for each child. Read and explain the poster and have your assistant chef color their own chart like the poster. Either draw food or have them find and cut out pictures of healthy food in a magazine to glue according to each section.

Part 2: Grocery Store Tour

Take a trip to the grocery store not to buy anything but to give a special tour. They might have been there many times but this time focus on where things are, such as, the fruits and vegetables, the meat section, dairy products, etc. Bring their colored chart with them to show them where the foods are on the chart.
