Part 1: Using a Non-Sharp Knife

Kids Cooking Activities Ebooks

ebooks collection

using a non-sharp knife for kids cooking lesson For today's kids cooking lessons we will be using a non-sharp knife, a table knife or a serrated plastic knife. It is hard to determine at what age your child is ready for using a knife.

Kids are always anxious to use a real grown up knife but kitchen knife safety is important!

If you decide to start using a sharp knife before the next age group please read about knife safety here.

You can have your chef-in-training practice cutting hot dogs, soft fruits, hard boiled eggs, etc.

This lesson is a warm up exercise to using a sharp kitchen knife. That will be a lesson in the next age group, Junior Chef.

Part 2: Make a Fruit salad

kids cooking lessons makes a fruit salad while practing with a non sharp knife

Use as much fruit as desired and whatever fruit is in season to make a fruit salad. Have the chef-in-training practice cutting with a table knife and toss the salad together.

Try using soft fruit like bananas, kiwis, apple slices already cut(by an adult), grapes, watermelon, etc. Add mini marshmallows for a little color and fun.
