Cooking Lessons Plans
7-11 year olds
Lesson 9
We
are going on a field trip for today's kids cooking lessons. Tour a
specialty kitchen shop (or if one isn’t available, use your own
kitchen.)
Part 1: What are All These
Cool Kitchen Tools For?
Explain all the kitchen tools you
see and what they are used
for, such as, a potato masher, a garlic press, a whisk, a pastry brush,
a pasta machine, a sifter and so on.
Your
child may have seen you use them
before but make a special point to explain what these things (and more)
are used for.

There
are so many cooking tools you could spend hours in a kitchen shop,
so, just let your child's interest guide you.

Part 2: Make
Cupcake Ice cream Cone Recipe

Cake mix of your
choice
Sugar cones with flat bottoms (colored cones are a fun idea)
Frosting and decorations, crushed cookies or nuts
Have child mix cake mix according to package directions. Place cones in
a muffin cup pan. Pour cake batter into each cone an inch from the top.
If you have a muffin scoop
(special kitchen tool!)
use this to fill the cones. Adult should bake about 30 minutes until
toothpick inserted in the cake top comes out clean. Allow to cool.
Frost and let your chef-in-training decorate.
