Making Pie Dough
Kids Cooking Activities Ebooks
Don't be scared away by our kids cooking lessons today! Once you've
tried to make a pie you will be surprised at how easy it can be.
Making
a Pie Crust
2 Cups flour
1 Cup shortening
¾ teaspoon salt
Place flour, shortening and salt in bowl. Mix together until crumbly.
You can even use your hands to break up into crumbs.
In separate bowl add:
1 egg
2 Tablespoon vinegar
¼ Cup cold water
Blend together with a fork. Pour egg mixture into flour mixture and
stir. The less you handle the dough the better. Pie dough isn't like
bread dough it doesn't like to be kneaded! Form into 2 balls.
On
a floured surface roll out one ball into a circle. If you are using a
rolling board to roll the dough place pie plate upside down on top of
the dough and invert/flip so that pie dough should now be in pie plate.
If not using a board, fold circle in half, pick up gently and place in
pie plate. Fold over and make sure it is centered in the pie plate.
Patch and seal any holes if there are any. Fill with pie filling and set
aside.
Roll the other ball into circle shape again. Fold in half and place on top
of pie filling. Fold over. Use a fork to seal edges. Cut slits on top
to allow air to vent.
Bake in a 425 degree preheated oven for 30-40 minutes(depending on pie
filling) until pie crust is golden brown.
Well done. If you need a little more help, watch the kids
cooking video below on making pie dough.
