Lesson 6

For today's kids cooking lessons we are going to look at some definitions of cooking terms. Please visit our Cooking Terms Glossary

Part 1: Understanding Cooking Terms

Some of these terms, like bake or boil, your Junior Chef will know already but there is bound to be a lot of learning in this long list! Print off the Cooking Terms Glossary
and attach it to your refrigerator or file in your kitchen for future reference.

Part 2: Cooking Vegetables Different Ways

Okay, now that you've learned a few new cooking terms, we will practice them. We will start by choosing one vegetable, such as broccoli or cauliflower, whichever vegetable you would like to work with. Then look over the cooking term list and choose three words you want to work with.

For example, sauté chopped broccoli in a pan, boil broccoli flowerets in a saucepan and bake broccoli in a vegetable dish. Or you could panfry zucchini, julienne zucchini and stew zucchini in a soup.

Whichever one vegetable you choose and whatever three cooking terms you decide to use, have fun! Keep Cooking!
