Halving or Doubling Recipes
Today's kids cooking lessons is going to pick up where we were
in Lesson 8 with baking cookies. However, today we will practice
halving and/or doubling a recipe. Pick out which cookie recipe you'd
like to work with today or use the one below.
Now
either halve the recipe or double it. Remember those math lessons in
school!! They really do come in handy.
Have you ever
heard of the famous Neiman Marcus $250 cookie? Well even if you haven't
it is a great recipe that makes a lot of cookies! Therefore, it is a
great recipe for cutting in half.
2 Cups butter 2
Cups brown sugar 2 Cups sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla 4
eggs 2 teaspoons baking soda 5 Cups blended
oatmeal-measure oatmeal and blend in a blender to a fine powder 1
teaspoon salt 2 teaspoons baking powder 4 Cups flour 1
8 oz. Hershey Bar (grated) 24 oz. chocolate chips 3
cups chopped nuts walnuts, almonds, or pecans In a
mixing bowl add softened butter, white sugar and brown sugar. Cream
together. Then add eggs and vanilla. Blend together. In a
separate bowl
add dry ingredients-flour, oatmeal, salt, baking powder, and soda. In
a mixing bowl combine the dry ingredients with the sugar mixture. Mix
together and then add chocolate chips, Hershey Bar and nuts. Roll into
balls and place two inches apart on a cookie sheet. Bake for 10 minutes
at 375 degrees. Makes 112 cookies.
