Baked
Potatoes (April Fool’s – It’s Ice Cream!)
By Kids
Cooking Activities
These
“baked potatoes” look completely real — until
someone takes a bite! Vanilla ice cream rolled in
cocoa mix resembles a baked potato, and whipped
cream on top looks just like sour cream. A perfect
April Fool’s dessert surprise.

(optional): 15 minutes | Yield:
4 servings
Ingredients
- Vanilla ice cream
- Instant hot cocoa
mix
- Whipped cream
Instructions
- Using an ice
cream scoop, form ice cream into oval shapes
about the size of a small or medium baked
potato.
- Gently roll the
bottom and sides in instant hot cocoa mix to
resemble potato skin.
- Place on a
serving plate.
- Add a spoonful
of whipped cream on top to look like sour cream.
- Serve
immediately or freeze briefly to firm up.
Kid-Friendly Tips
- Work quickly so the ice cream doesn’t melt.
- Use gloves for easier shaping.
- Let kids sprinkle the cocoa “skin.”
Fun Variations
- Add caramel drizzle for a “butter” look.
- Sprinkle crushed cookies for extra texture.
- Use chocolate ice cream for a darker “potato.”
Notes
For the most realistic look,
avoid rolling the entire scoop in cocoa — leave
small light patches to mimic natural potato skin.
