Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup baking cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 8 oz sauerkraut, drained and finely chopped
  • Chocolate frosting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 13x9-inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well.
  5. Stir in vanilla and water.
  6. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture and blend.
  7. Fold in drained, finely chopped sauerkraut.
  8. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  9. Bake about 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  10. Cool completely and frost with chocolate frosting.
