Basic Deviled Eggs
Before you make deviled eggs, boil the eggs and allow them to cool. Count on 1 whole egg per person. This gives each person two deviled egg halves.
How to Boil the Eggs
- Add eggs to a pot of water.
- Bring the water to a full boil.
- Place the lid on the pan and turn off the heat.
- Let the eggs sit for about 15 minutes.
- Cool, peel, and rinse the eggs.
How to Fill Deviled Eggs
- Cut eggs in half with a table knife.
- Place yolks in a bowl and egg whites on a serving platter.
- Mash yolks with mayonnaise, mustard, pickle juice, and seasonings.
- Spoon the mixture back into the egg white halves.
- Or place the filling in a zip-top bag, cut off one corner, and pipe it into the egg whites.
- Sprinkle with paprika and refrigerate until ready to serve.
Kid cooking tip: Kids can peel cooled eggs, mash yolks, stir the filling, sprinkle paprika, and help pipe filling from a zip-top bag with supervision.
