Basic Deviled Eggs

Before you make deviled eggs, boil the eggs and allow them to cool. Count on 1 whole egg per person. This gives each person two deviled egg halves.

How to Boil the Eggs

  1. Add eggs to a pot of water.
  2. Bring the water to a full boil.
  3. Place the lid on the pan and turn off the heat.
  4. Let the eggs sit for about 15 minutes.
  5. Cool, peel, and rinse the eggs.

How to Fill Deviled Eggs

  1. Cut eggs in half with a table knife.
  2. Place yolks in a bowl and egg whites on a serving platter.
  3. Mash yolks with mayonnaise, mustard, pickle juice, and seasonings.
  4. Spoon the mixture back into the egg white halves.
  5. Or place the filling in a zip-top bag, cut off one corner, and pipe it into the egg whites.
  6. Sprinkle with paprika and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Kid cooking tip: Kids can peel cooled eggs, mash yolks, stir the filling, sprinkle paprika, and help pipe filling from a zip-top bag with supervision.
