French Toast

Main ingredients: 4 | Kid jobs: whisk, dip, sprinkle, serve

French toast with berries

French toast is a good first stovetop breakfast lesson. Kids can practice cracking eggs, whisking, dipping bread, and watching how the egg mixture changes as it cooks. An adult should manage the hot skillet.

Ingredients

Pantry extra: Butter or cooking spray for the skillet

Directions

  1. Adult: Preheat a griddle or skillet over medium heat and lightly grease it if needed.
  2. Child: Crack the eggs into a shallow dish and whisk them with the milk.
  3. Sprinkle in the cinnamon and whisk again.
  4. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, coating both sides without letting the bread become too soggy.
  5. Adult: Place the bread on the hot skillet.
  6. Cook until the bottom is golden brown, then turn and cook the second side.
  7. Continue cooking until the egg coating is fully set and no wet egg remains.
  8. Serve warm with fruit, yogurt, applesauce, or another favorite topping.

Makes: 4 slices
