Prep: 10 minutes | Toast:
3–5 minutes | Yield: 1
sandwich (2 halves)
Ingredients
- 2 slices Sara Lee
pound cake, toasted
- Vanilla frosting
(homemade or store-bought)
- Orange food coloring
(to tint frosting “cheese”)
Instructions
- Lightly toast
the pound cake slices until warm and slightly
golden.
- Tint vanilla
frosting with a small drop of orange food
coloring and stir until it looks like “cheese.”
- Spread frosting
on one slice of toasted pound cake.
- Top with the
second slice to make a “sandwich.”
- Cut in half and
serve.
Kid-Friendly Tips
- Kids can help tint and spread the frosting.
- Toast lightly—too dark and it won’t look like
bread.
- Use a butter knife for spreading to keep it
neat and safe.
Fun Variations
- Add a thin layer of strawberry jam for a
“tomato soup” dip.
- Use chocolate frosting tinted with a little
orange for a “cheddar swirl.”
- Cut into triangles for a classic
grilled-cheese look.
Notes
For best “melted cheese”
effect, assemble while cake is still warm so
frosting softens slightly. Serve with April Fool’s
dinner ideas like meatloaf “cupcakes” frosted with
mashed potatoes for extra laughs.
