An
April Fool’s dessert that looks like a classic hot
dog and fries meal! “Fries” are toasted pound cake
strips, and the “hot dog” is a Twinkie stuffed with
a giant Tootsie Roll, topped with red and yellow

servings
Ingredients
- Twinkies
- Giant Tootsie Roll
- Pound cake
- Sugar
- Strawberry jam (for
“ketchup”)
- Red-tinted frosting
- Yellow-tinted
frosting
Instructions
Make the “Fries”
- Cut pound cake
into long strips that look like French fries.
- Place strips on
a cookie sheet. Broil, turning often, until
lightly browned on all sides (watch closely so
they don’t burn).
- Sprinkle warm
“fries” with sugar and set aside.
Make the “Hot Dogs”
- Cut a slit down
the center of each Twinkie (lengthwise).
- Insert a piece
of giant Tootsie Roll into the slit so it looks
like a hot dog.
- Using a
decorating bag (or zip-top bag with a corner
snipped), pipe a line of red frosting for
“ketchup” and yellow frosting for “mustard.”
Serve
- Plate the “hot
dogs” with the “fries.”
- Add strawberry
jam or extra frosting on the side as “ketchup”
for dipping.
Kid-Friendly Tips
- Kids can help cut pound cake into “fries”
using a butter knife.
- Let kids choose how much “ketchup” and
“mustard” to pipe on top.
- Adults should handle the broiler—pound cake
browns quickly.
Notes
Broil time will vary by
oven—stay nearby and turn often to get an even
“fry” color. If you don’t want to broil, toast
strips in a toaster oven until golden.
