Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
Chewy oatmeal raisin cookies are a classic beginner cookie recipe that works well for lunchboxes, snack time, and baking practice.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 1 1/4 cups brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
- 3 cups oats
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 cup raisins, chopped nuts, or chocolate chips (optional)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Grease cookie sheets or line with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, blend shortening, sugar, egg, milk, and vanilla.
- Add oats, flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
- Stir until combined.
- Fold in raisins, nuts, or chocolate chips if using.
- Roll into balls or scoop onto cookie sheets.
- Bake 10–12 minutes or until golden brown.
