Prep: 25 minutes | Chill: 1–2 hours | Yield: 4–6 servings

Ingredients

  • ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1 cup whipped cream or whipped topping
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1–2 cups cubed pound cake or sponge cake
  • Optional: orange zest, chocolate shavings

Instructions

  1. Make the Chocolate Sauce: Heat chocolate chips and cream on low, stirring constantly until smooth. Remove from heat, stir in orange juice, and cool to room temperature.
  2. Prepare the Layers: Slice strawberries, cube cake, and prepare whipped topping.
  3. Build the Trifle: In a large glass bowl or individual cups, layer cake cubes, strawberries, a drizzle of chocolate-orange sauce, and a swirl of whipped cream.
  4. Repeat layers once or twice depending on container size.
  5. Finish: Top with extra chocolate sauce, berries, orange zest, or chocolate curls.
  6. Chill 1–2 hours before serving for best flavor.

Kid-Friendly Tips

  • Kids can help layer ingredients and decorate the top
  • Use clear cups so kids can see each layer
  • Great lesson in flavor pairing (chocolate + orange)

Serving Ideas

  • Serve in individual cups for parties
  • Add heart-shaped strawberries for Valentine’s Day
  • Pair with whipped cream and fresh berries on top

Notes

Allow the chocolate sauce to cool before layering so it doesn’t melt the whipped cream.
