Simple Sugar Cookies with Cake Mix

This shortcut cake mix sugar cookie dough is easy for beginner bakers and younger kids. It rolls out easily and works well for classroom holiday baking.

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Bake Time: 5-7 minutes
Yield: About 2 dozen cookies

Ingredients

• 1 box white cake mix
• 1/2 cup shortening
• 1/3 cup butter, softened
• 1 teaspoon almond or lemon extract
• 1 egg

Directions

1. In a large mixing bowl combine cake mix, shortening, butter, extract, and egg.
2. Mix until dough forms.
3. If dough is sticky, chill for 30 minutes.
4. Roll dough onto a floured surface.
5. Cut with holiday cookie cutters.
6. Bake at 375 degrees F for 5-7 minutes.
7. Cool before decorating.
