- Category:
Dinner
- Method:
Microwave
- Skill Level:
Beginner
Prep: 15 minutes | Cook:
6–10 minutes | Yield: 6
patties
Ingredients
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- 2½ cups beef broth
- 1 (6 oz) jar sliced
mushrooms, drained
- 4 teaspoons
Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried
basil
- 1 egg
- ½ cup bread crumbs
- 1 onion, grated
- ½ teaspoon seasoned
salt
- ¼ teaspoon black
pepper
- 1½ lbs ground beef
Instructions
- In a
microwave-safe casserole dish, whisk cornstarch
and beef broth until smooth (no lumps).
- Stir in
mushrooms, Worcestershire sauce, and dried
basil. Set aside.
- In a separate
bowl, mix egg, bread crumbs, grated onion,
seasoned salt, and pepper.
- Add ground beef
to the bread crumb mixture and mix until
combined. Shape into 6 patties.
- Place patties
into the casserole dish with the broth/mushroom
mixture.
- Cover with a
microwave-safe lid or vented cover and microwave
on HIGH for 6–10 minutes, or until patties are
cooked through.
- Halfway through
cooking, carefully rotate/turn patties for even
cooking.
- Let stand 2–3
minutes before serving to allow gravy to
thicken.
Kid-Friendly Tips
- Kids can whisk the broth mixture and help
shape patties (wash hands first!)
- Adults should handle the hot casserole dish
and check doneness
- Teach food safety: ground beef should reach
160°F in the center
Serving Ideas
- Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg
noodles
- Add steamed peas or green beans on the side
Notes
Microwave cooking times vary
by wattage and dish size. If patties aren’t fully
cooked, microwave in 1-minute increments. Whisk
broth and cornstarch well at the start for the
smoothest gravy.
