Main ingredients: 5 | Kid jobs: whisk, pour with help, add fruit
This large baked pancake rises dramatically in the oven before settling as it cools. Kids enjoy watching the batter puff up while practicing measuring and whisking skills.
Ingredients
4 tablespoons butter
4 eggs
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
Directions
Adult: Preheat the oven to 400°F.
Place the butter into a 13 x 9-inch baking dish and place it in the oven while it preheats.
Child: Whisk together the eggs, flour, milk, and salt until smooth.
Adult: Carefully remove the hot baking dish from the oven.
Pour the batter over the melted butter.
Return the baking dish to the oven.
Bake for about 25 minutes, or until the pancake is puffed and golden brown.
Serve immediately with fresh fruit, powdered sugar, yogurt, or warm fruit syrup.
Makes: 6 to 8 servings
What to expect: The pancake will rise dramatically while baking, then settle after it comes out of the oven. This is completely normal.
