For Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh: “Color Mixing Pancakes”
Activity Theme: Explore primary and secondary colors through edible art!
Ingredients:
Pancake batter (premade or homemade)
Food coloring (red, blue, yellow)
3 bowls + spoons
Griddle or non-stick pan
Instructions:
Divide the batter into 3 bowls.
Add a few drops of red, yellow, and blue food coloring—one in each bowl.
Let kids mix colors to create new ones:
Red + Blue = Purple
Blue + Yellow = Green
Red + Yellow = Orange
Cook small pancakes in each color.
Serve with fun toppings (whipped cream, fruit, syrup) and talk about what happens when you mix colors—just like the mice did!
Learning Connection: Kids get a hands-on look at color mixing while practicing pouring and stirring.
