White Pepper Gravy

Homemade White Pepper Gravy
This easy white pepper gravy is a classic comfort food recipe made with butter, flour, milk, salt, and plenty of black pepper. Serve it over mashed potatoes, chicken fried steak, hamburger steaks, biscuits, or rice for a rich and creamy homemade meal.
Ingredients
- 2-3 tablespoons butter
- 2-3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk, plus 1-2 additional tablespoons if needed
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
Directions
- Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
- Whisk in the flour until a thick paste forms.
- Slowly add the milk a little at a time, whisking constantly after each addition until smooth.
- Continue stirring as the gravy thickens. It will change from a thick paste to a smooth, creamy gravy as the milk is incorporated.
- If you prefer a thinner gravy, stir in an extra tablespoon or two of milk.
- Season with salt and plenty of black pepper to taste. For a traditional pepper gravy, use a generous amount of pepper.
- Serve immediately over mashed potatoes, biscuits, hamburger steaks, chicken fried steak, rice, or your favorite comfort foods.
Kids Can Help: Kids can measure the ingredients, whisk the gravy with adult supervision, and season it with salt and pepper before serving.
