Fruit Pattern Kabobs

These colorful fruit kabobs are a fun preschool cooking activity that teaches counting, sequencing, patterns, and fine motor skills. Young children practice following directions while creating a healthy snack they can enjoy afterward.

Ingredients

  • Apple slices
  • Fresh strawberries
  • Seedless grapes
  • Wooden skewers or kid-safe fruit sticks
  • Lemon juice (optional, to prevent apples from browning)

Directions

  1. Wash all fruit thoroughly.
  2. Slice the apples into bite-sized wedges and toss with a little lemon juice if desired.
  3. Remove the strawberry stems.
  4. Give each child a skewer.
  5. Follow the pattern: 1 apple slice → 2 strawberries → 3 grapes.
  6. Encourage children to count aloud as they thread each piece of fruit.
  7. Repeat the pattern if using longer skewers.
  8. Enjoy immediately or refrigerate until snack time.
