This Ingredient Challenge gives kids a chance to create and invent their own recipes. Pick a challenge, take your ingredients in the kitchen and create a recipe. You can even get your friends and family involved and see whose recipe wins.

How to Join our Kids Cooking Challenge? 

We have 5 different challenges below. Each challenge has a list of ingredients, your job is to create a recipe using these ingredients. You can add more ingredients to your recipe but your recipe has to include all the ingredients listed in your challenge.

Take your ingredients to the kitchen and create. Your recipe can be a snack, breakfast, lunch, dinner or even a drink or smoothie, just as long as you create it.

Feel free to come back and share your recipe! A picture adds a lot so you can submit a picture with your recipe. Don't forget to comment and rate other chef's recipes, too.

It is that easy and that fun! Enjoy being creative and practicing your kitchen skills.

Kids Cooking Challenges

Challenge #1 - 3 ingredients

You need to use the following ingredients in your recipe:

  1. Lemon
  2. Green Peas
  3. Carrots
Now take your three ingredients and create something! Then come back and submit your recipe below.

Recipe Example Challenge #1- Green soup

First you boil the green peas so that they are soft.
Secondly you mash the green peas so that they are mushy and that all the juice is out.
After that you cut the carrots and boil them until Soft
Then them in to that boiling mushy peas and stir for at least 10 minutes
After that make sure it is eatable.  Then pour in to a bowl. Put a dollop of yogurt on the top. Cut a lemon in half then grind the lemon zest and pour 2-3 drops on the soup and some lemon zest

Challenge #2 - 4 ingredients

You need to use the following ingredients in your recipe.
  1. Spices or seasonings of choice
  2. Mango
  3. Chicken or Fish
  4. Green beans
Now take these ingredients and create your recipe!

Recipe Example Challenge #2- Mango Curry

  1. Slice chicken.
  2. Mash mango.
  3. Slice green beans.
Sprinkle chicken with curry powder, sugar, salt, pepper. Fry chicken in a teaspoon of oil until not pink any more.  Add 1 cup of chicken stock, beans, 2 tablespoons of chutney or pickle and mango to chicken and cook until chicken is done and beans are tender.
Thicken with cornflour mixed with a little water. Serve over white rice.

Ingredient Challenge #3 - Egg Challenge

You need to use the following ingredients in your recipe.
  1. Eggs, however many you need
  2. Green onions
  3. One fruit of your choice
Now take your three ingredients and create something!

Recipe Example Challenge #3- Pineapple Italian Omelet

Italian omelet and pineapple in pineapple cream

Omelet
Take 2 eggs whole and put them into a pan with Italian cheese and green onions then let it cook.
When it cooks fold it half way in the pan, then flip it on to a plate.

Pineapples
Get all the juice out of the pineapples then put the pineapples on the plate.

Cream
Take egg white and mix it with a mixer until it is very heavy.

Add 2 teaspoons of sugar, flip it with spoon to mix.

Ingredient Challenge #4 - Meat Challenge

You need to use the following ingredients in your recipe.
  1. One Meat product such as chicken, pork, beef, turkey, lamb, or substitute tofu or other vegetarian product, etc.
  2. Nuts, any type of nuts you'd like
  3. One vegetable of your choice
Now take your three ingredients and create something!

Recipe Example Challenge #4 - Chinese Chop Suey

  • 1 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 cup sliced fresh white mushrooms
  • 3 cups Fresh bean sprouts
  • 8 oz can of sliced water chestnuts, drained and chopped
  • 1/2 grated peeled carrot
  • 2 tbsp Sweet and sour sauce
  • 1 tbsp Sliced green onion
  • 1/2 cup sliced ham chunks

Heat the cooking oil in the frying pan on medium-high for 2 minutes. Add the broccoli, ham and mushrooms.Cook for about 2 minutes, stirring often, until broccoli and mushrooms start to soften.

Add the bean sprouts, water chestnuts and grated peeled carrot.Cook for about 2 minutes, stirring often until hot.

Add the sauce. Stir until the vegetables are coated. Sprinkle with the green onion. Serves 2. Enjoy your healthy meal.

Ingredient Challenge #5 - 1-1-1 Challenge

You need to use the following ingredients in your recipe.

  1. One fruit of your choice
  2. One vegetable of your choice
  3. One dairy product of your choice
Now take your three ingredients and create something!

Recipe Example Challenge #5 - Cottage Cheese and Apple Salad

Ingredients
  • 4 cups of cottage cheese
  • 3-4 large honey crisp apples peeled, sliced, and diced
  • 4 thin but medium in size strips of chopped lettuce

1. Get a medium sized bowl, and sprinkle the 4 cut strips of lettuce out on it.
2. Get your 4 cups of sweet and yummy cottage cheese and lay it evenly straight out in the bowl on top of the lettuce.
3. Get your 3-4 peeled, sliced, and diced apples and sprinkle them evenly over the sweet and yummy cottage cheese.
4. Now mess up your even mixture by mixing up the sweet and yummy cottage cheese, the peeled, sliced, and diced apples, and the 4 thin but medium in size pieces of lettuce.
5. Voila! Now enjoy your yummy salad!
