easy pound cake dusted with powdered sugar-CHGT

Prep: 10 minutes | Bake: 35-40 minutes | Yield: 1 loaf or 1 cake (about 10-12 slices)

Ingredients

  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 (3 oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 eggs
  • Powdered sugar (for topping), optional
  • Fresh fruit (for serving), optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a loaf pan or bundt-style pan (or use baking spray).
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat cake mix, milk, softened cream cheese, vanilla, and eggs until smooth and well combined.
  3. Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  4. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with fresh fruit if desired.

Kid-Friendly Tips

  • Kids can help measure milk, crack eggs with help, and mix the batter
  • Adults should handle the oven and removing the hot pan
  • Let kids decorate with powdered sugar and arrange fruit on top

Easy Variations

  • Add ½ cup mini chocolate chips or sprinkles to the batter
  • Use lemon cake mix and add 1 teaspoon lemon zest for a bright flavor
  • Top with whipped cream and berries for a quick "shortcake" dessert

Notes

Baking time can vary by pan size and oven. Start checking at 35 minutes. If the top browns quickly, loosely tent with foil for the last 10 minutes.
